Dr. Grant Williams, who holds a BSc from Mount Allison, a BEd and MEd from the University of New Brunswick, and an EdD from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, joined the School of Education in 2011. His numerous letters of nomination speak to his ability to inspire his ÆÞÓÑÆƽâ°æ to be the best teachers they can be while also providing the tools for them to do so. His teaching philosophy embodies principles that reach beyond teaching materials and emphasize kindness, ownership, and professional development. He is known as being available and approachable by his ÆÞÓÑÆƽâ°æ and colleagues. Dr. Williams routinely models collaborative research and experiential learning, and helps his ÆÞÓÑÆƽâ°æ engage in both. Recently, his ÆÞÓÑÆƽâ°æ were involved in the Anglophone West School District STEAM Expo—which was spearheaded by Dr. Williams—as judges. His academic research focuses on teaching strategies for promoting ÆÞÓÑÆƽâ°æ’ conceptual change, inquiry-based science learning, classroom discourse analysis, model-based teaching, and learning of abstract scientific concepts. He teaches courses on secondary sciences and math methodology, often video recording his classes as a means for professional reflection and self-improvement.
